Álvaro G. Díaz Rodríguez

About

He started his music education at the Center for Musical Studies of the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), then continue at the National School of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Álvaro holds a Doctorate in Music, with a specialty in Historical Musicology, from the Universidad Católica Argentina.

In 1992, he toured Italy as an oboist of the Youth Symphony of San Diego, California. He has been invited to give concerts and lectures at various universities, festivals and congresses in Mexico, USA, Holland, France, Spain, Belgium, England, Italy, China, Portugal, Switzerland, Canada, Cuba and Argentina. He has record five CDs as an oboist and musical director.
 
His work has been published in specialized magazines and books of art, music and contemporary aesthetics. As guest conductor, has had the opportunity to work with the San Miguel Allende International Chamber Music Festival Orchestra, National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, Riverside Lyric Opera, Symphony of Oaxaca, Seconda Prattica of Amsterdam, Zapopan Symphony Orchestra, Choir ProMúsica, UABC Symphony Orchestra, UABC Opera Company, among others, and principal conductor of the Contemporary Music Ensemble of the UABC and the Ensenada Chamber Orchestra.

He has premiered more than 50 works by Mexican and foreign composers, including an unpublished work by José Pablo Moncayo for string orchestra. As conductor, he has work with great musicians such as Placido Domingo, Horacio Franco, Gianfranco Bortolato, Alfonso Moreno, Silvia Navarrete, Pablo Gómez, Misha Lakirovich, José Medina, Mitchell Newman, Ignacio Clapés, Wilfrido Terrazas, Dante Alcala, Myroslav Khomik, Nortec: Bostich + Fussible, Susana Zabaleta, among others.

He is currently the musical director of the Chamber Orchestra of Ensenada, is a full-time Research Professor at the UABC, coordinator of the postgraduate and research program at the Faculty of Arts UABC-Ensenada. Álvaro, has received several scholarships and distinctions for his career, fellow as orchestral conductor of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (2010-2011 and 2015-2016) and in 2011 he was named distinguished citizen of Ensenada, and University Merit 2018, for his artistic career.
